Howdy,
In May we took a month off to travel the national parks of California, Arizona and Utah. It was great spending so much time together with our 1 year old daughter. We had time to think, reflect, read and write. It’s no coincidence that I published a new article on the importance of ‘slack time’ (link below).
As mentioned in my previous newsletter, I am on a mission to improve the way we work. Making organizations adaptable to change, beyond just implementing agile. In this newsletter I’ll share a few articles on this subject.
So, what comes after agile? Self-management is definitely one of the ingredients. In June I started working with a new client, a fully self-managed IT company: Schuberg Philis has 230 people and no managers. I published an article to explain how they work, and I was interviewed by the Leadermorphosis podcast on self-management (links below).
enjoy!

Inspiring LinkedIn update
“For the last 2 weeks we have given total control to our engineers to make their own decisions on how to organize themselves as well as what to work on. The only request was that they would try to improve one of our key business performance indicators. The results were amazing… Both the team as well as management were really excited about the opportunity of self organizing teams that combine business experience with data analysis and engineering power.” - CIO Travelstart

Upcoming events: lessons from Formula 1
Earlier this year we visited the Red Bull Racing factory together with a group of CIO’s, by invitation of AT&T. I researched how Formula 1 teams are organized and discovered that they are very agile organizations. They innovate rapidly and are adaptable to change in a regulated environment. Last week I shared my lessons and insights at Ctree Inspire in the beautiful castle of Nyenrode Business University. If you’ve missed it, there is another opportunity in september at Agile Amsterdam 2017
